About Us
What Is It?
The Troyan Fantasy Baseball League is a uniquely structured fantasy sporting group formed in Troy, Ohio in the late 1980s. The league follows the basic concepts of fantasy baseball (ie. draft a team of major league players, compile stats, determine winning team) but has incorporated its own twists. The most obvious difference from many modern fantasy baseball games is the treating of statistics as a commodity attached to the player as opposed to values earned by a team. A player traded takes his stats with him.
The highlight of the league is its auction style draft which takes place prior (usually) to the beginning of each major league season. Currently, league participants draft a team from the National League of Major League Baseball. The draft typically takes 8-10 hours.
Current franchises are owned by individuals in Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, and Ohio.

History
The earliest version of the league was the creation of Laura Anderson, Patrick Crawford, and brothers Mike and Jim Nickras. Based on a fantasy game played by Laura's father, the participants used an auction style draft to create a fantasy team from all major league rosters. Statistics and standings were compiled on a sporadic basis using the Sunday Dayton Daily News league statistics. When the league started, the participants were in elementary school. The original draft did not radically change from this first iteration of the league until the global Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, when draft moved online.
The league, with various membership, continued as the participants grew. By the early 90s, a new core membership had evolved to ten individuals and teams were being drafted from National League clubs only.
As a portion of the league left Troy and everyone grew into adult lives, the league became inactive at some point in the early 2000s.
In 2003, the current version of the Troyan Fantasy Baseball League (given this name for the first time) reformed. Using the internet to more efficiently share information, the league was able to support membership from more expanded regions and included many members from the group that formed the 1990s core.
